Wareham, Onset fire departments help in regional response to Middleboro fire

A late night fire in Middleboro saw a massive response from several nearby fire agencies, including those from Wareham and Onset, and took most of the night to extinguish.

Fire departments first responded to the fire just up I-495 at 481 Wareham St. around 6 p.m. on Friday, as flames broke out in a landscaping material yard, according to the Middleboro fire department’s Facebook page. No injuries were reported.

Wareham and Onset fire departments contributed firefighters and fire engines to help battle the blaze, alongside others from the state’s fire agency, Raynham, Halifax, Bridgewater, Plympton and Carver.

“Thousands of feet of supply line was laid with hundreds of thousands of gallons of water applied by the operations end,” the Middleboro department said in its Facebook post. “A total of 24 pieces pieces of apparatus and 3 lighting towers were utilized.”

Agencies left the fire around 2 a.m. on Saturday. Twenty-six Wareham firefighters responded to the Middleboro fire, according to the Wareham fire department’s Facebook page.

“A final thanks goes out to the members who covered and supervised what was by all accounts a fantastic fireworks display at Battis field which occurred simultaneously,” the Middleboro fire department’s post read.
