A 56-year-old Wareham man, David St. Jacques, has been arrested by federal agents for the possession of child pornography.

Federal agents searched St. Jacques’ home on September 29 and seized a computer, three phones, and a thumb drive. St. Jacques allegedly destroyed at least two other drives and attempted to destroy one of the phones when the agents arrived.

He admitted to exchanging child pornography with other people online, and agents quickly found child pornography on the devices while still on the scene. 

St. Jacques has a prior felony conviction from March 2009 for multiple counts of the dissemination and possession of child pornography. 

Because of that prior conviction, St. Jacques will -- if convicted -- face a mandatory minimum sentence of at least 10 years and up to 20 years in prison, supervised release for five years to life after prison, and a fine of up to $250,000. 

The case is part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to protect children from exploitation and abuse.
