Wareham High School field hockey players were recognized for their community outreach efforts on Wednesday, Sept. 19, by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association.

Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Assistant Director Rich Riley presented players with the Educational Athletics Achievement Award for free field hockey youth clinics held Saturdays in September. The clinics have been held for the past two years. At the clinics, young players are given field hockey lessons and can play against older players.

According to Riley, the clinic is “an outstanding initiative to come and give of your time for the benefit of future, potential field hockey players.”

Wareham High School Principal Scott Palladino and Superintendent Dr. Kimberly Shaver-Hood were on hand to celebrate the award.

“It’s wonderful to see our athletes honored for their community service,” said Shaver-Hood.

The award was presented before the team’s home game against Seekonk.
