Wareham Fire responds to nine calls before noon
The Wareham Fire Department responded to nine incidents on Thursday morning, ranging from medical calls to smoke investigations and a ruptured fuel tank.
The morning began with a utility problem in Swifts Beach at 8:12 a.m.
Just after 8:30, crews responded to Rte. 495 south at Rte. 25, where a truck’s fuel tank had ruptured. Firefighters estimate more than 50 gallons of fuel were spilled before the leak was maintained.
Just before 9 a.m., there was a medical call.
At 9:15, crews responded to two separate fire alarm calls at two locations on Patterson Brook Road.
At 9:19, the department was alerted to a possible structure fire with a person trapped inside a home on Sandwich Road. Crews from Wareham and Onset Fire responded to find a minor fire that was out when they got there, and transported one person to the hospital.
At 10:02, crews went to the library, where there was a gas leak.
Less than half an hour later, one engine left the library to respond to a car accident on Glen Charlie Road before moving on to a report of smoke near Maple Park at 10:58 a.m.
One last medical call took place just before noon.
A total of 24 Wareham Fire personnel responded to the incidents throughout the morning.
“Department members did a great job handling these calls, and I would like to commend Fire Alarm Operator Mikayla Young for her efficiency in coordinating the responses to these runs," said Assistant Chief John Kelley.
