Wareham Fire District residents are being asked to approve several financial articles at a Special Meeting on Jan. 13. 

Among them is a $32,000 labor settlement. Prudential Committee Chair George Barrett said that the settlement is related to the compensation of a former Water Department Superintendent who left the job seven or eight years ago. He said there was some dispute over how much the person was owed upon his departure from the role, but noted that the final settlement was close to what the department had originally proposed. 

“It’s been a long process,” Barrett said.

Going forward, Barrett said that the department had made some tweaks to its contracts to clarify compensation. 

The rest of the warrant is related to moving extra funds from past projects and a bond to help cover the remainder of the cost for a new pumper tanker truck. 

“We need a little more funding to get a half a million dollar truck for a bit over $75,000,” Barrett said. Barrett noted that this is the second large grant secured by Chief Matt Rowley to purchase new emergency vehicles.

All in all, the new truck will take about 400 days to be constructed.

The meeting will be held at the district’s Station 2, located at 2368 Cranberry Highway in West Wareham, at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 13.
