Wareham Fire District Water Department recognized

Jun 2, 2021

The Wareham Fire District was recognized by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection for their excellent water service and eco-friendly efforts.

“The Baker-Polito Administration is proud to recognize our dedicated drinking water providers during National Drinking Water Week,” said Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Kathleen Theoharides. “Public water suppliers in Massachusetts, especially during the pandemic, showed great dedication and commitment to ensuring our residents have consistent access to safe, clean, healthy drinking water."

Wareham was recognized for its energy conservation.

Using a grant from MassDEP, the district installed a municipally-owned 81 kilowatt system on the roof of the new Maple Springs Water Purification Plant.

Each year, the panels will save the department more than $16,000 and will generate 95,000 kilowatt-hours of clean energy.

The solar panels generate about 10 percent of the plant’s needed electricity.
