When Marie Auld passed away, her children wanted to honor her memory and give back to the community she loved. 

They decided to host a Walk for Marie around Buttonwood Park and collect donations for local organizations. In the past, they have collected peanut butter, gently used winter coats, school supplies, and pasta — all items that people need and that most people can afford to donate.

This year, Megan Greene, Ken Metivier, and Kristen Murphy are collecting cereal, which they will be donating to Damien’s Place. Their goal is to collect 750 boxes before the walk, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on September 14.

“We like to do everything for the town, because that’s where she lived,” said Metivier.

“She just loved her town and loved everyone in it and was a big part of it,” said Murphy.

Last year, the siblings collected about 1,500 boxes of pasta. In the past, they have collected more than 600 winter coats, more than 1,000 jars of peanut butter, and more than 1,200 school supplies.

The siblings are hoping to find Wareham students who would like to volunteer by collecting cereal or helping on the day of walk for volunteer hours. They would also like to hear from organizations who might want to partner with the walk in the future.
