UPDATE: Pedestrian hit and killed by vehicle on Rte. 25

A pedestrian was hit and killed by a vehicle on Friday, July 10 at about 9 p.m. on Route 25 East at the 495 North interchange. 

At 9:45 p.m., there was still a heavy State Police presence at the scene, and the rightmost lane of traffic was closed. 

Several state troopers stood talking around a lone work boot, which lay on its side in the road

The pedestrian, a 58-year-old Sandwich woman, was taken to Tobey Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. 

According to a press release from the Massachusetts State Police, the driver,  a 36-year-old Pocasset woman, remained at the scene. No charges have been filed at this time.

The crash, including why the pedestrian was in the roadway, remains under investigation at this time.

State Police were assisted by Wareham Police and Wareham Fire and EMS. Two travel lanes on Route 25 were closed from the time of the crash until 11:30 p.m. to facilitate the rescue response and investigation.
