Town employee launches write-in campaign for Town Clerk

Mar 20, 2019

Jenna L. Deane, an assistant in the Wareham Inspectional Services Department and former employee in the Town Clerk’s office, is running as a write-in candidate for Town Clerk.

The current town clerk, Mary Anne Silvia, is preparing to step down this April. Michele Bissonnette will be on the ballot for Town Clerk.

Deane pulled nomination papers for the position in January but stated that she did not return them by the deadline due to conflicted feelings about work and family.

Deane has worked for the town of Wareham since 2016, and has been a resident since childhood.

"I feel if I do not run, I would not be giving my community the chance to elect the best possible candidate for the position,” Deane said. "I have the personality, the experience, the energy, and the knowledge to handle all that encompasses the responsibility of being Town Clerk."

Deane said that she does not want the experience and knowledge she gained in the Town Clerk’s Office to go unused, and she made the decision to run as a write-in candidate after “long talks with friends and family and [an] outpouring of support."
