Tobey Hospital has earned recognition from the American Heart Association for its stroke care, officials announced last week.

The hospital was named a recipient of the “Get with The Guidelines: Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award” for treating stroke patients quickly and efficiently.

Other hospitals in the Southcoast Health system, Charlton Memorial and St. Luke’s, also earned similar awards from the American Heart Association, according to an Aug. 23 press release.

“We are honored to be recognized by the American Heart Association, verifying our commitment to providing excellent stroke care in the region,” said Southcoast Health president and CEO Ray Kruger in the release. “I would also like to thank the outstanding clinical teams at all three Southcoast Health hospitals for their work toward achieving these remarkable goals.”

Hospitals that receive the “Get with the Guidelines” gold achievement award have reached their goal of treating patients with 85% or higher compliance to standards of care outlined by the American Heart Association for two consecutive years. Recognized hospitals have also met additional, similar compliance standards.

“When someone experiences a stroke, providing treatment quickly is critical for optimal patient outcomes,” said Daniel Sacchetti, Stroke Director at Southcoast Health, in the release. “Receiving these significant awards demonstrates Southcoast Health’s commitment to delivering high-quality stroke care to our patients close to home.”
