Three new candidates pull nomination papers in Wareham

Two incumbents pull papers for reelection

As of Jan. 14, three more candidates have pulled nomination papers to enter the races for Selectmen, School Committee and Housing Authority this April. Two additional candidates seeking reelection have also pulled papers for the Board of Sewer Commissioners and School Committee.

In total, there are 10 open seats this election cycle in a variety of positions, including the Board of Assessors, Town Clerk and Town Moderator. 

The three newcomers who have pulled paper’s are James Munise for a three-year seat on the board of Selectmen, Apryl Rossi for a two-year seat on the School Committee and Jodie Santagate for a five-year seat on the Housing Authority.

Incumbents Peter Dunlop and Mary Morgan pulled papers for reelection to their respective tree-year seats on the Board of Sewer Commissioners and School Committee.

These candidates join the races with five others who have already pulled papers.

Selectman Anthony Scarsciotti and Selectman Patrick Tropeano will both be running for reelection this April to three-year terms.

Town Clerk department assistant Jenna Deane and Marion town employee Michele Bissonnette are both running for the Town Clerk position left vacant Mary Ann Silva, who announced her retirement earlier this year. 

Bissonnette is currently an administrative assistant in Marion’s treasurer/collector office and also worked as assistant town clerk in Marion.

Jennifer Bailey, of Crab Cove Terrace, is running for the two-year seat on the School Committee.

Jean Connaughton, whose seat is open for a five-year term on the Housing Authority, said she plans to run for reelection and will pull papers later this month.

Papers for the Board of Assessors and Town Moderator positions have also yet to be pulled.

Claire Smith, the incumbent Town Moderator, said she has yet to decide if she will run for reelection or not. Smith has served as Town Moderator in Wareham for nine years.

Nomination papers can obtained from the Town Clerk’s office in Town Hall, located at 54 Marion Road, until Thursday, Feb. 7.

The last day to return completed nomination papers to the Town Clerk’s office is Wednesday, Feb. 11 by 5 p.m. 

The last day to register to vote in the town election or at Town Meeting will be Wednesday, March 13 until 8 p.m. in the Town Clerk’s office.
