Chatham Village Foods gave students at Wareham Public Schools something to be extra thankful for this season with a donation of 53 turkey dinners.

Each of the 20-pound birds delivered to Wareham Middle School on Nov. 20 came with a care package containing stuffing, cranberry sauce and vegetables. The boxes also contained a package of Chatham Village Foods’ signature product, croutons.

Located at 20 Kendrick Road, Chatham Village Foods has been making annual Thanksgiving donation to students in need since 2012. That’s when the company reached out to Wareham Middle School nurse Susan Akins to inquire about where to send holiday donations.

“They figured the school nurse would have the best of idea of what families were in need,” Akins explained. “And I’m thrilled to say that each year the donation only gets bigger.”

According to Akins, many of the turkey dinners were distributed to children who partake in the school’s weekend backpack food program. The program provides children who receive free or discounted meals at school with additional meals to take home over the weekend.

Akins said that 97 students participate in the backpack program.

“We’re very thankful that Chatham Village thinks of our students each year,” Akins said. “Their generosity is unbelievable.”
