Families tossed eggs, tied their legs together in three-legged races and ran through the streets of Swifts Beach during the neighborhood’s 55th annual Labor Day races on Sunday, Sept. 4.

Swifts Beach Improvement Association president Kathleen Norris said Tuesday that several hundred people attended the day’s events, which include a 50-yard dash, three-legged race, egg toss and ended with a mile race around the neighborhood.

“The races went very well,” she said.

Prizes were given out for first and second winners throughout different age brackets, but each child received a lollipop and waters, Norris said. She also thanked Kool Kone, Water Wizz and Gateway Tavern for their donations to the weekend’s events.

This year marked the 55th annual Labor Day footraces, Norris said.

The Swifts Beach Improvement Association hosts events for neighborhood residents and to raise money for the playground that’s being built in Swifts Beach.

The next neighborhood event is a fall craft fair, featuring local artists, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1 at the association’s clubhouse, 38 Pleasant St.
