Suspected electrical fire prompts evacuation of AutoZone in West Wareham

Employees and customers were evacuated after a suspected electrical fire at AutoZone in West Wareham on Wednesday night.

According to emergency broadcasts, firefighters responded to the auto parts store, located at 2419 Cranberry Highway, just after 6 p.m. Employees reported hearing an electrical panel inside the store make loud popping noise and the smell of smoke. Firefighters then had the store evacuated.

Upon arrival, firefighters located the electrical panel and discovered three circuit breakers had been tripped and the panel was still hot. Firefighters are investigating the cause.

“Luckily, the breakers did exactly what they’re supposed to do,” said Assistant Fire Chief Pat Haskell.

The store remained closed for the rest of Wednesday night. No injuries were reported.
