Substitute cafeteria worker pay increased to $15

Nov 9, 2021

Substitute cafeteria workers in Wareham schools will be getting a bump in pay following a unanimous vote of the School Committee on Nov. 9.

“We are having a great deal of difficulty finding cafeteria subs,” said Superintendent Dr. Kimberly Shaver-Hood. “Actually, we have one sub — and that’s all we have. We cannot get anyone else to work.”

Shaver-Hood asked the committee to raise pay from $13.50 an hour to $15 an hour.

“By doing this we anticipate it could raise the cafeteria budget $50 a month,” she said. “That would be the impact.”

The committee unanimously approved Shaver-Hood’s request after almost no discussion.
