The Board of Selectmen officially recognized National Osteogenesis Imperfecta Week, which runs from May 1 to May 8, at their March 23 meeting. 

Osteogenesis Imperfecta, also known as brittle bone disease, is a genetic disorder causing fragile bones and other complications.

Cheryl Manduca and most of her family have the condition. She joined the meeting with her daughter, Hailey, and granddaughter Ainslee, both of whom have OI. 

Ainslee, a student at the Decas School, showed off a Barbie doll to appreciative board members.

“It’s our honor and privilege to make this proclamation,” said Chair Peter Teitelbaum.

Manduca asked everyone to wear yellow on May 6, known as Wishbone Day, to help spread awareness of the disorder.

“We just ask everybody to wear yellow in support of us and others across the nation and around the world with Osteogenesis Imperfecta,” Manduca said.
