Select Board supports bills that could reimburse town for public safety complex costs

The Select Board voted at its Sept. 7 meeting to write a letter in support of two bills currently in front of the state legislature that would reimburse towns for the majority of the cost of constructing new public safety buildings.

The bill, if approved, would mean that towns would be reimbursed for 75 percent of the cost of a standalone fire or police station, or 90 percent of the cost of a public safety complex housing both police and fire, explained board member Patrick Tropeano.

“That should go a long way to helping us finally get our police station in place,” Tropeano said.

The Board voted to send a letter in support of the bills to the committee discussing the legislation, State Senator Marc Pacheco and State Representative Susan Williams-Gifford.
