Santa sits down with pups for Santa Paws

It’s time to make Christmas cards with furry, four-legged friends.

The Dog Park Affiliation of Wareham hosted Santa Paws photo shoot on Saturday to let pet owners capture pawsitively adorable memories.

Emily Lewis, who has fond memories of sitting on Santa’s lap as a child, hoped to give the same Christmas excitement to her pitbull Sally.

“I know dogs don’t have a concept of holidays, but I wanted her to experience new things that she might remember,” said Lewis. “Even if she won’t, she loves meeting new people.”

The photoshoot idea came to event organizer Sally Morrison back in October at PAWject Runway, during which Wareham Pack Walkers and WCTV collaborated to produce a parody video of TV’s Project Runway. Owners were the ‘designers’ while their dogs were the ‘models.’

“It’s another fun event for people, kids, pups, and cats,” said Morrison.

WCTV crew and Dog Park Affiliation of Wareham volunteers spent nearly the whole day on Friday preparing the station for the four-legged customers, setting the cameras, lights, and laying an extra layer of carpeting in some places.

On Saturday, the crew had plenty of treats and toys to keep the pets focused while WCTV Executive Director Steve Ruiz even turned on the air conditioning to bring the station to a North Pole-temperatures so Santa would feel more at home.

“As a station, we want to be more involved in a community and help out the community in any way we can. We allow people to come in and use the space,” said Ruiz. “We want to help out. The event is for a good cause and I like puppies.”

Upon their arrival, customers could choose one of ten Christmas backgrounds for their photo and also purchase treats. All proceeds benefited the Wareham Dog Park.
