Register for the 33rd annual Buzzards Bay Swim
Event Date
Registration is now open for the 33rd annual Buzzards Bay Swim, hosted by the Buzzards Bay Coalition.
The New Bedford Harbor shipping channel will close to all boat traffic on Saturday, June 20 so that hundreds of swimmers can swim the 1.2-mile open water crossing from New Bedford to Fairhaven.
Swimmers will navigate the route past Butler Flats Lighthouse and through the New Bedford Hurricane Barrier before reaching the finish at Fort Phoenix. There will be a beach party, cheering crowds, live music, pancakes, coffee and local beer waiting at the finish line.
The event costs $35 to register, and all swimmers commit to raising funds to support clean water. Adults must fundraise a minimum of $300 while youth and lifeguards need to raise at least $150. The money goes toward shuttle service, parking, food and drinks, event t-shirts, swim caps and finishers’ medals.

The swim begins at 7 a.m. at Cisco Brewers Kitchen & Bar in New Bedford on Saturday, June 20.
