WAREHAM – Raymond J. Antell, Jr., 96, of Wareham, died Monday, January 30, 2023 at Tobey Hospital in Wareham surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Kathryn E. (Murphy) Antell. They had been married for 67 years.

Born in Lynn, Mr. Antell was the son of the late Raymond and Alice (Baribeau) Antell. He graduated from Cathedral High School in Manchester, NH in 1944, received his B.Ed. from Keene State University in 1948, and his M.Ed. from Boston University in 1953.

Mr. Antell was a secondary school teacher in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. He was an English teacher at Wareham High School where he became head of the English Department. He retired in 1990 as guidance counselor after 34 years. During the summer months, he worked as a park ranger at Bourne Scenic Park along the Cape Cod Canal.

From 1950 to 1952, Mr. Antell served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Antell enjoyed spending holidays and get-togethers with is family, big band and standard jazz, traveling, and golf.

He is survived by his daughters, Tricia Mitchell of Wareham and Lynn Antell of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; his sons, Timothy Antell and his wife Terri and Robert Antell all of Wareham; his brother, James Antell and his wife Ellen of Enfield, NH; his son-in-law, Dennis Clemishaw of Rochester; 6 grandchildren; and one great granddaughter; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Karen Clemishaw.

Visiting hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 5, 2023, at Chapman Funerals and Cremations – WAREHAM, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham. His funeral will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, February 6, 2023, from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 94 High St., Wareham. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
