Post-holiday covid surge appears to be slowing, official says

Jan 26, 2021

Town Administrator Derek Sullivan said Wareham seems to finally be emerging on the other side of the post-holiday spike in covid-19 cases.

“The actual number of positive cases has declined,” Sullivan reported during the Jan. 26 Board of Selectmen meeting. “Where we were going over a hundred, it was now 74 from the last week.”

He also reported two recent coronavirus deaths, however, bringing the town to a total of 15 deaths in the past seven weeks.

“That’s a negative trend we want to get out of,” Sullivan said.

With that in mind, Selectman Peter Teitelbaum encouraged Wareham residents to continue taking coronavirus safety precautions.

“Just keep wearing the masks, social distancing,” he said. “Just do the stuff you’ve been doing for the past nine months that have kept you alive so far. It’ll continue to keep you alive.”
