Police make arrests for a variety of crimes

Wareham Police made several arrests this week for assault, theft, and attempted arson.

At about midnight on Friday, June 7, Wareham Police responded to Penikese Street in West Wareham following reports of a past fight.  After an investigation, Officers Peter Sylvia and Matthew Donovan arrested George Leach III, 40, of West Wareham, and charged him with assault and battery with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon, assault and battery, and vandalizing property. A second man, Shaun Bruneau, 41, of 5 Weepecket Lane is being summoned to court for assault and battery with a deadly weapon and assault and battery.

On Saturday morning, June 8, shortly before 1:00 a.m., Wareham Police Officers Ryan Turner and Garrett Smith responded to Cranberry Plaza following a report of a suicidal man armed with a box cutter and threatening to jump in front of a moving vehicle.

Upon the officer’s arrival the man had a cell phone in one hand and the other hand in his pocket. The officers demanded to see his hand, but he refused and instead began to berate the officers by shouting obscenities at them, according to police.

Both officers attempted to restrain him, but he pulled away and began to run. As the man was running, he was allegedly screaming that he was going to do bodily harm to the officers.

The man then jammed his hands into his waistband, refusing to comply with the officers.

Sgt. Daniel Henderson arrived on the scene and utilized a Taser to subdue the man. He was then placed in custody and taken to Tobey Hospital for an evaluation.

On Sunday, June 9, at about 11:00 a.m., Detective Dean Decas and Officer Steve Joy arrested Shauna Ramos, 37, and John Lyons, 43, both of Buzzards Bay, at Stop & Shop on Cranberry Highway. The two are suspected of taking over $400.00 worth of items out of the store without paying for them.

At 9:30 a.m. on Monday, June 10, Officer Charles Pillsbury arrested Nicole Coe, 38, of Taunton on Glen Charlie Road. She was placed in custody for operating after suspension following a motor vehicle stop.

At 2:25 p.m. on Monday, Officer Steve Joy and Sergeant Paul Somers responded to an address in Onset for a report of a man that had doused several items in his home with gasoline. When the officers arrived, they found that he had fled the scene. He was located several hours later in Bourne. He was placed under arrest by Officer Pillsbury after being stopped by Bourne Police. Ben Baum, 23, of Onset, is charged with attempted arson of a dwelling house.
