To the Editor:

I had very mixed emotions when I learned Chief John Walcek is retiring from the Wareham Police Department.

I’m certainly happy for him and his family but saddened for the Town of Wareham and all of us who live here. He is an exceptional man who truly cares about the town and really listens to what you have to say and tries to make things better. 

I will absolutely miss seeing him around town and stopping by my veterans’ group that I always invited him to.

Chief John is one of a kind, and I wish him all the very best.
