Opinion: Results of Wareham's new rubbish rules

Mar 8, 2021

To the Editor:

Here we go again. People are already starting to dump things that they can’t get rid of for free in Marion or Rochester. Couches are showing up on side streets, etc. along with other items. These two appeared one morning off Redbrook Road.

Who inherits them? The town or us that have to look at them? There isn't even a place that we can drop them off.

New Bedford Waste charges by the ton with a minimum fee. The same happened when they shut down the branch and leaf drop-offs. My empty lot along with many others inherited loads of leaves, branches, etc. Even with signs, ropes, etc. people snuck in and dumped until they were caught. :-)

It's such a great feeling to look out in the morning and see someone gave you a couch, chair, mattress, lawnmower or other goodies in front of your house or your neighbors :-).

Maybe if we delivered them to Town Hall, the officials that we elect would think beyond the buck and change things. I'm old enough to remember when we had normal trash pickup.

Good luck,

Jimmy Carr
