Onset Bay Center ribbon cutting planned for Oct. 8

On Oct. 8, at long last, the Buzzards Bay Coalition plans to host an official ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the completed Onset Bay Center.

The center has been open since summer 2020, but the severity of the pandemic prevented a formal celebration when renovations were first completed.

The grand opening event is planned for 4 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 8, and Kat Garofoli, the director of the center, said that the Quahog Republic Waterfront Eatery would provide refreshments and serve drinks.

“It’s just going to be one type of beer and a red wine and white wine,” Garofoli explained. Along with drinks, she said cups of chowder would be served to visitors.

She added that only one drink will be allowed per attendee age 21 and up.

At a Sept. 21 Select Board meeting, the Onset Bay Association requested a license to pour and serve beer and wine at the event. The board unanimously approved the request, pending a few final conditions.
