Maryann Baptista, 76

Maryann (Sequeira) Baptista, 76, of New Bedford passed away at home peacefully in her sleep on Monday, Jan. 21. She was the wife of the late John A. Baptista. 

Born and raised in Wareham, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Mary (Mendes) Sequeira, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life. 

Mrs. Baptista and her late husband owned and operated Maryann’s Variety Store at Cottage and Maxfield Streets for many years. 

She loved watching sporting events and was happy to have watched the Patriots win the AFC Championship game on Sunday night. 

She is survived by four children, Allen Baptista, Nicole Baptista, Gary Baptista, and Jason Baptista; her sister, Beverly Lima; six grandchildren, Adrianna Baptista, Alisha Baptista, Alexis Baptista, Alena Baptista, Mallory Baptista, and Nicholas Baptista; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. 

She was the sister of the late Clementine Cruz, Shirley Perry, Patricia Harris, Timeo Sequeira, Gordon Sequeira, Lawrence Sequeira, and Ronald Sequeira. 

Her funeral will be held on Friday Jan. 25 at 8:30 a.m. from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at St. Anthony’s Church, Mattapoisett at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Wareham.
