Marie “Pat” Coyne, 93

Aug 14, 2022

Marie “Pat” Coyne, 93, of Weymouth, passed away at her daughter’s home in Wareham while surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of the late Joseph “Joe” Daniel Coyne.

Born in Worcester and raised in Canton, Pat was a long-time resident of Weymouth. She graduated from St. John’s High School in Canton and Bryant and Stratton Business School in Boston in the 1940’s. Pat worked as an Administrative Assistant for Turner Construction Company in Boston in the 1950’s while living on Commonwealth Ave with friends.

Married in 1956, her husband, Joe, was her world and they spent 52 happy and blessed years together. She was continuously at his side during his illness.

Pat’s focus in life was on her family and friends. Pat relished decorating and cooking for family on holidays, birthdays, and other celebrations. She put her all into even an everyday family meal. A favorite saying when it came to cooking was, “The secret ingredient is love.”

Pat also enjoyed gardening, day trips, and taking long walks with her family at Webb State Park and Nantasket Beach. Annual summer vacations to Cape Cod and winter trips to Florida were special times shared with her family. She was always up for family game night and was an avid Scrabble player. She meticulously maintained her much-loved home and welcomed conversations with neighbors when gardening. Pat worked assisting local seniors in her earlier years.

Throughout her life, Pat attended weekly Mass until she was no longer able, but was faithful to watching the TV Mass. Her faith continuously provided her with a quiet strength and joy and was especially apparent when she lost Joe in 2008.

Memory loss did not affect her ability to remember her daily prayers or a single word of melodies from Bing Crosby, Perry Como and other music of the day. Both brought special joy, especially in recent months.

Predeceased by sisters Eleanor Patnode and Frances Nakao, brother Henry Morrell, sisters-in-law, Blanche Coyne, Margaret O’Brien, Marguerite Coyne, brothers-in-law Paul Coyne, Leo Coyne, James O’Brien, Richard Patnode, several nephews, and many life-long friends.

Survived by her cherished daughters, Linda Coyne of Bedford, MA, and Karen Butler and her husband, Dan Butler, of Wareham, her brother-in-law, John Coyne of Quincy, her sister-in-law, Barbara Coyne of Bonita Springs, Florida, many loved nieces and nephews, and caring Weymouth neighbors.
