Lillian M. (Olsen) Dickens, 80

Jan 3, 2022

Lillian M. (Olsen) Dickens, 80, of East Wareham, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Dec. 31, 2021 at home with loved ones. She was the daughter of the late Harry O. and Marguerite M. (Bouchard) Olsen.

She was born in Oswego, NY, and graduated from Hannibal High School in Hannibal, NY before moving to South Dennis, MA. She moved to Wareham in 1984.

Ms. Dickens, often called Lil by her friends, was a hard worker with a strong work ethic, a strength anchored in the great love she had for her family and her pride in taking care of them. She worked for many years as an overnight stocker at the East Wareham Walmart before retiring. Among many other jobs she had during her life, she also worked as a dietary aid and a carpenter. She helped build the playground at Lopes Park, something her great-grandchildren love to hear about when they play there.

Lil had a wonderful sense of humor, she loved making her friends and family laugh. She was an animal lover who treasured her furry family members and loved to watch the birds that visited her garden. She loved woodworking, she skillfully worked on her home and built toys for her grandsons when they were little. She also enjoyed collecting interesting objects, like coins and seashells, a hobby she passed down. She had a curious mind, she loved mysteries, true crime and adventure documentaries.

She will be ever-present in the hearts of her loved ones; when they see a hummingbird visit a garden, find a pretty seashell, or add a new coin to their collection. When the treasure of Oak Island is finally found, her family will feel her presence in the room and imagine her smiling with them.

Survivors include her daughter, who was the light of her life, Karen M. Whiting. Her son-in-law Chris Whiting of Harmony, ME; a brother Eric “Ricky” Olsen and sister-in-law Mary Olsen of Sterling, NY; nieces and nephews grandson Geoffrey Whiting and his wife Crystal Burns of Wareham; grandson Charles E. E. Whiting and his wife Amanda Whiting of Harmony, ME; 7 great-grandchildren, Wesley, Esme, Hunter, Liberty, Faith, Jordyn and Elijah. And, of course, her beloved dog Lacey who was always faithfully by her side, the best friend a person could ask for.

Her services will be private.
