Hazardous Waste Day to be held Nov. 16

The Carver Marion Wareham Waste District will be hosting a Hazardous Waste Day on Saturday, November 16, from 9 a.m. until noon at the Carver DPW Building, 51R Pond Street, Carver, and the Benson Brook Transfer Station on Benson Brook Road in Marion. 

The Benson Brook Transfer Station will not be accepting regular household trash on Nov. 16, and trash should be brought to the Rte. 28 station in Rochester that day.

The district will accept acids, aerosol cans, ammonia & bowl cleaners, bleach, brush cleaners, bug killers, degreasers, drain cleaners, fertilizers, flammable liquids/solvents, herbicides, household cleaners & solvents, lead based paints, over the counter medicines, oven cleaners, paint thinner, sharps, swimming pool chemicals, waxes, weed killer, batteries, anti-freeze, motor oil (20 gallon limit), spent gasoline, and products containing Mercury (thermometers, thermostats, float switches), etc. 

The district will not accept commercial hazardous waste, propane tanks, fluorescent bulbs or tubes, latex based paint, tires, PCBs, medical waste, ammunition, explosives, fireworks, biological materials and radioactive materials.

To drop off waste, residents must show a valid transfer station sticker or other proof of residency, such as a tax, water or sewer bill.

All containers or boxes must be left at the site.

The district regularly accepts fluorescent bulbs and tubes, propane tanks, and mercury-containing devices at both transfer stations.
