Francis K. “Kevin” Ward, 72

Francis K. “Kevin” Ward, 72, of Wareham died Sunday, January 19, 2020 after a long illness. He was the husband of Linda J. (Wing) Ward.

Born in Fredrick, OK,  he was the son of the late Richard D. and Madeline M. (Donahue) Ward. He was a graduate of Wareham High School, Class of 1966, and worked as a technician for Verizon for many years until his retirement. Kevin also served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam war from 1964 to 1966.

He was a devoted Roman Catholic and a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Wareham where he served as a eucharistic minister, and was a 2019 recipient of the Marian Medal from the Diocese of Fall River.  

His many memberships include; Knights of the Holy Sepulchre, Third Order of Franciscans, Past Faithful Navigator of the Bishop Tyler Assembly Knights of Columbus, Past Grand Knight of Bishop Feehan Council Knights of Columbus, member of Fr. Grogan Council Knights of Columbus, Pro-Life Defense Fund and Mass. Citizens for Life. Kevin was also a trustee of the Evergreen House in Wareham, a member of Wankinquoah Rod and Gun Club, American Legion Post # 220, chaplain and vice-president of the Friends of Wareham Veterans, Hero’s Circle Monument Committee, Wreaths Across America and Wareham Historical Society.

Kevin was also a summer youth boot camp coordinator at Stonehill College, a fundraiser for the Southcoast Cancer Center and the founder of the Bill Sylvia Golf Tournament. He was also the inspiration for the Cape Cod Bus for Life taking part in the largest pro-life movement every year in Washington, D.C.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; his children, Kevin Ward and his wife Laurie of Middleboro, Katherine Kastenbaum and her husband Scott of Onset, and Crystal Casino of Crestview, FL; his siblings, David M. Ward of Buzzards Bay, Bonnie Cornwell of Valdosta, GA, and Anne Marie Ward of Winston-Salem, NC. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

His funeral will be from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy. (Rt. 28), Wareham on Friday, January 24, 2020 at 8 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, High St., Wareham at 9 a.m. Interment will be in Mass. National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.
