Fishing Pier proposed off Merchants Way

Sep 4, 2019
The Wareham River, already a popular spot for crabbing, could be the site of a fishing pier. Town Planner Ken Buckland has a meeting scheduled with the Massachusetts Recreational Fisheries project.

The pier would be located near the old train station on Merchants Way, in a location central to downtown Wareham.
Although the pier would need to cross the railroad tracks, Buckland and Selectman Alan Slavin have been in conversation with the railroad and think it is possible to gain access to and build the pier.

The pier could be the first piece of the boardwalk, first proposed in 2013, which would connect the Tremont Nail Factory site to Besse Park along the river.

The boardwalk has been discussed as part of larger plans to revitalize Wareham Village by making it a destination for people looking to have a night out or spend an afternoon. The boardwalk would make the Village more friendly to pedestrians and provide better access to the picturesque views of the river.
