Edwin J. Payton, 77, of Onset, died Jan. 28, 2021 in the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Mary Louise A. (Buckley) “Mary Lou” Payton. 

He was born on July 3, 1943 in Bridgewater to the late Edwin F. and Rita M. (Brady) Payton. He lived in Onset and Plymouth for most of his life. 

He graduated from Wareham High School, Cape Cod Community College(ASW), Western Kentucky University (BA) and Bridgewater State University (M.Ed.). He owned and operated Mass Bay Associates - Real Estate & Insurance in Marshfield for over 40 years before retiring. Ed was also a volunteer firefighter in Onset, and served in the U.S. Navy.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              

Ed enjoyed boating, fishing, traveling, and walking along the Cape Cod Canal. He was a member of Realtors and the Marshfield Chamber of Commerce.

He is survived by his loving fiancé, Teresa Nawrotek, daughter, Stephanie (Payton) Neale of Stonington, CT; son, Kurt Payton of Douglassville, PA; son, Christopher Payton of New Bedford; and 10 adoring grandchildren; Logan, Sarah, Sumner, Abbi, Hailey, Sydney, Jack, Molly, Payton, and Nolen. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at a date to be determined.
