An East Wareham woman is facing drunk driving charges after police say she sheared a utility pole in half during a car crash.

Police charged Lynn Shaughnessy, 65, on Oct. 27 with operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, marked lanes violation and speeding.

Police said at about 10:15 p.m., Officers Nate Aronson and Chris Corner responded to a crash reported at the corner of C. W. Bishop and Union Avenues. The officers discovered a utility pole had been broken and was being held up by wires with a car resting against the bottom of the pole. Police found Shaughnessy at the scene allegedly impaired.

She was taken to Tobey Hospital for evaluation and was later summoned to appear in Wareham District Court.
