Douglas L. Gifford (USA, Ret.), 75, of West Wareham, died Nov. 4 at Longmeadow of Taunton. He was the husband of Susan E. Gifford.

Born in Wareham, he was the son of the late Clarence N. and Clare L. (Moulton) Gifford. A graduate of Wareham High School, he received a bachelor’s degree from Methodist University in Fayetteville, North Carolina.   

Mr. Gifford served in the U.S. Army for 20 years. A decorated Vietnam veteran, he retired in 1980 from the Florida State University ROTC program. After his retirement, Mr. Gifford worked as a contractor.

He is survived by his wife, Susan E. Gifford of Wareham; two sons from his first marriage, Andrey L. Gifford and his wife Loretta of Concord, North Carolina; Anthony D. Gifford and his wife Angie of Tallahassee, Florida; and daughter-in-law Beth Gifford of Norman, Oklahoma; his brother, Mark Gifford and his wife Susan of Wareham; two sisters, Germaine Kapalka and her husband John of Wareham, and Melody Gifford of Marion; his grandchildren, Morgan, Ayden, and Mitchell Gifford. He was predeceased by his first wife, the late Hedviga Gifford, his son, the late Alan N. Gifford, and his brothers, the late Ralph, David, and Russell Gifford.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Route 28), Wareham on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 12:30 p.m. to follow in procession to Rochester Center Cemetery, Rochester for a graveside service with military honors at 1:30 p.m.
