Democrats in Wareham to hold annual caucus June 1

Democrats in Wareham will hold their annual caucus at the Old Methodist Meeting House, Main Street at 10 a.m. on June 1.

At the caucus, the Democrats will elect 10 delegates and four alternates to the 2018 Massachusetts Democratic Convention. Delegates will be equally divided between men and women in accordance with Democratic Party rules. Anyone at least 18 years old and registered as a Wareham Democrat is welcome to attend the caucus and run for a delegate position.  Doors will close promptly at 10:30.

The state convention will be held on Saturday, September 14, at the Mass Mutual Center in Springfield, 1277 Main Street.

Candidates for delegate and alternate must be present at the caucus and consent to nomination in writing. Candidates may make a two-minute statement and may distribute materials on their behalf. All ballots will be written, secret and recorded by the caucus teller. Anyone not elected as delegate or alternate delegate at the caucus may apply to be an “add-on” delegate in the following categories: youth (age 35 and under), minority or disabled.

Discrimination on the basis of race, sex, age, color, creed, national origin, religion, ethnic identity, sexual orientation or economic status in the conduct of the caucus is strictly prohibited. Any challenges to the delegate-selection process must be filed with the Massachusetts Democratic Party, 77 Summer St., Boston, MA 02110 within 10 days after the caucus.

After the caucus there will be light refreshments.
