Council on Aging hosts September events

From balance and strength classes to lunches and sing-a-longs, there’s no shortage of events at the Council on Aging this month.

All activities, unless otherwise noted, take place at the Multiservice Center, 48 Marion Rd. The Council on Aging center is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Also, free COVID-19 test kits are available in the COA office from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday.

Sept. 9: Red Cross Blood Drive from 2-7 p.m.

Sept 12: Discussion on current events led by Judith Grassi at 10 a.m. in the gym’s living room. Call 508-291-3130 to register.

Sept. 12: Monthly book club at 10 a.m. September's book is "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Pie Society.”

Sept. 12: A new class, Balance and Strength, will be led by Neil Sullivan at 1 p.m. every Monday.

Sept. 14: Lunch and sing-a-long with Tom and Sheila Monahan at 11:30 a.m. Lunch is $5 and must be reserved by Sept. 8. Call 508-291-3130 to register.

Sept. 14: Registry of Deeds representative John Buckley will update listeners on the Homestead Act and recording issues which affect seniors. He will be able to print out deeds or statuses of seniors’ mortgage discharge, along with questions and answers at 10 a.m.

Sept. 19: Intro to Reiki at 10 a.m.

Sept. 19: Balance and Strength class led by Neil Sullivan at 1 p.m.

Sept. 19: Sail around Buzzards Bay at 3 p.m. with the Buzzards Bay Coalition at the Onset Bay Center. Space is limited. Call 508-291-3130 to save a spot.

Sept. 21: Podiatrist Dr. Alan Lechan will be available to address seniors’ issues and help trim nails. Bring a list of medications, doctor's name and date of last visit. Cost is $35.00. Call 508-291-3130 to make an appointment.

Sept. 21: Low Vision Support Group at 1 p.m. Karen Hatcher from the state Commission of the Blind will lead the group.

Sept. 26: Crafts at 1 p.m.

Sept. 26: Balance and Strength class led by Neil Sullivan at 1 p.m.

Sept. 28: Bingo at 12:30 p.m. Bingo is cash prizes only. Cards are used for all games and are $3 each or two for $5. Monthly raffle by the Advocates for Wareham Seniors to benefit the COA.

Sept. 30: Food Delivery from 9-10 a.m. If you signed up for the Greater Boston Food Bank, pick up your order at the Council on Aging. Call 508-291-3130 for more information.
