Charles Barros, Sr., 91

Charles Barros, Sr., 91, of Wareham died Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at home after a brief illness. He was the husband of Paula A. (Gomes) Barros and had been married for 60 years.

Born in Wareham, Charles was the son of the late Caetano and Candida (Gomes) Barros.  He was supervisor for Campanella and Cardi Construction Co., and Tilcon/Warren Paving for 53 years before retiring.

Charles was a Korean war veteran and served in the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne as a Paratrooper. He was a parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church in Wareham, a life-member of the Knights of Columbus since 1956, the D.A.V., the Road Builders Association, and a member of the Laborers Local # 385 since 1949.

Survivors include his wife Paula; his children, Charles Barros, Jr., Eric Barros, Sharon Garrett, and Richard Roderick; his sisters, Jennie Goncalves and Emily Baptiste, 11 grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, four nieces, and three nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, the late Ramona Webb, Mary Neves and Amos Barros.

DUE TO GOVERNOR BAKER'S EMERGENCY ORDER, ACCESS TO THE FUNERAL HOME WILL BE LIMITED TO ONLY 25 PEOPLE INSIDE AT ANY TIME.  THOSE ATTENDING WILL EXPERIENCE LONG WAIT TIMES OUTSIDE BEFORE ENTERING. 

Visiting hours will be Wed., March 18th, 2020 from 5 – 8 PM at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy. (Rt. 28), Wareham.  Funeral will be private.  Interment will be in Mass. National Cemetery, Bourne.
