While there won’t be a full Cape Verdean festival this year, a picnic is scheduled for noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, along with a ceremony in honor of former Cape Verdean baseball players.

The picnic will feature live music, food, vendors and raffles. Admission is $10 per person and kids under 12 are free. The event will be hosted at the Onset VFW at 4 Gibbs Ball Park Rd. in Onset.

At 3 p.m. during the picnic, a ceremony will be held to honor former Wareham Portuguese American baseball players from the 1940s to the 1950s. 

The Cape Verdeans Select Committee will present plaques to the families of the 29 players who played on the Wareham Cape Verdean team. The history of those team will be shared during the ceremony.
