Annual Illumination Night canceled

Aug 20, 2019

Due to the EEE threat, the Annual Illumination Night is canceled.

The event was originally scheduled for August 24.

Since Wareham is at critical risk for human exposure to the virus until the first frost, having Illumination night later in the year is “not feasible,” said the Onset Bay Association President Kat Jones.

“This is in the best interest of public safety,” said Jones. “We truly appreciate your understanding.”

During the Illumination Night, thousands of red flares light up the shore. Many guests light a luminary for a loved one. The event also features live music in the gazebo and fire dancers on the beach.
