25 High Schoolers awarded at entrepreneur event

25 Wareham High School students who are members of the DECA Club for aspiring entrepreneurs won awards at the DECA District 8 Competition in Barnstable on Jan. 5 and 6. 

The awards were for the students’ high scores in testing and roleplay, in which the students acted out scenarios to test their real-world problem solving abilities. 

The award-winners were as follows:

James Pinkham won third place in the exam and roleplay categories, and second in the Entrepreneurship category. 

Laura Clements won first place in the exam and second place in the roleplay categories, as well as second in the Food Marketing category.

Elijah Carrion won third place in the exam and roleplay categories, as well as third place in the Quick-Serve Restaurant Management category.

DECA Club President Stoney Ferry came in third place in the exam and fifth place in the Restaurant and Food Service Marketing category.

Marian Karam and Freddie Rosen came in second place in roleplay. Rosen was also a Top 10 finisher in Sports and Entertainment Marketing. 

Makayla Young won second place in the exam, first place in the first roleplay category and third place in the second roleplay category. She also won second place in the Principles of Finance category.

Woody Salem won third place in the exam and fourth place in the Principles of Finance category.

Lily Hagen won third place in the exam and fifth place in the Principles of Hospitality and Tourism category. Keira Pierre was in the Top 10 of this category. 

Fredi Gakidas and Indiana Troupe came in first place in the roleplay and Hospitality Team Decision Making categories. Troupe also won first place in the exam.

Isabella Russo won fourth place in the Apparel and Accessories Marketing category.

Jason Benoit won fourth place in the Business Service Marketing category, and Diego Mello was in the Top 10.

Olivia Hogan was in the Top 10 of the Entrepreneurship category.

Ryann Tripp and Evelyn Francis were in the Top 10 of the Hotel Lodging Management category.

Kissamy Georges and Kailee Rose were in the Top 10 of the Human Resource Management category.

Charlotte Roy won fourth place in the Marketing Communications category.

Katyra Campbell was in the Top 10 of the Restaurant and Food Service Marketing category.

Salim Karam came in fifth place in the Personal Financial Literacy category.

Hannah Milne was in the Top 10 of the Personal Financial Literacy category.

Chloe Nadeau was in the Top 10 of the Principles of Business Management and Administration category.

Makayla Young won second place in the Principles of Finance category.

29 Wareham DECA students will compete in the Massachusetts DECA State Career Development Conference on March 9, 10 and 11.
