Wednesday Bird Walks at the Lloyd Center

Jan 24, 2022

The Lloyd Center for the Environment property offers a diverse assemblage of habitats that attract birds year-round. Oak-hickory forest, cedars and hollies, red maple swamp, vernal pools, estuary, and salt marsh, all attract various species of songbirds, hawks, owls, waterfowl, and shorebirds, depending upon the season.

Winter through spring migration is especially interesting due to a mix of resident, overwintering, and migrant birds passing through, more visible in the leafless canopy.

On these walks, designed for beginning and expert birders alike, participants will walk the property and follow the action, including a stop at the Center’s bird feeder station. If birding is quiet, there are other groups and features to explore, including mammals or their indications, trees, plants, and insects.

As a bonus, meet Koko the Screech Owl at the end of the walk, for that guaranteed owl sighting!

Lead by Lloyd Center Research Associate, Jamie Bogart, Wednesday Bird Walks will take place on Wednesday mornings (through May 18th) from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Inclement weather date: Thursdays.

Participants are to meet at the Lloyd Center for the Environment lower parking lot, near the stairs. The Lloyd Center is located at 430 Potomska Road in Dartmouth.

Wednesday Bird Walks are free for Lloyd Center members. The price for non-members is $5. This event is limited to 15 participants.

Pre-registration required by 3:00 pm the Tuesday before the walk.
