Dartmouth – Sign up to join the Friends of the Dartmouth Libraries on Thursday, April 15, at 6:30 p.m. as Brian Fitzgerald, Mount Washington Observatory’s Director of Science & Education, discusses the Observatory’s climate data, what’s changed on the summit and how it reflects global climate trends.

Situated atop the 6,288-foot summit of Mount Washington, the non-profit Mount Washington Observatory (MWO) operates a weather station that has been gathering weather data around the clock since 1932.  Using human measurement and verification, it has amassed one of North America's longest-running climate records.  Known as the Home of the World’s Worst Weather, Mount Washington is known for its erratic weather and holds the record for highest measured wind speed not associated with a tornado or tropical cyclone.

As Mount Washington Observatory’s Director of Science & Education, Brian Fitzgerald oversees MWO’s mission focus areas of weather observation, research and education.  Prior to his current role, Brian served as a MWO winter summit intern and Weather Observer/Education Specialist.  Additionally, Brian served as Blue Hill Observatory’s Chief Weather Observer in Milton, MA.  Brian holds a B.S. from the University of New Hampshire in Environmental Conservation Studies and a Master of Education in Science Education from Boston University.
