Update! Tickets now available for Sunday’s Chamber Concert:
Join us for a thrilling musical journey to points perhaps hitherto unknown. Jennifer Higdon (b. 1962) is celebrated for music that speaks not only to the seasoned performer, but to audiences from the first-time listener to the most sophisticated connoisseur. Her Piano Trio is a buoyant example of her gifts. NBSO flutist Timothy Macri joins us for Afro-American Suite (1969) by Undine Smith Moore, also known as the “Dean of Black Women Composers.” Timothy also performs in Leo Sowerby’s Trio for Flute, Viola and Piano (1919), a seismic departure from the anthems for which Sowerby is otherwise known. This unique program concludes with Leyendas (Legends): An Andean Walkabout, a string quartet by Gabriela Lena Frank (b. 1972), whose works draw on her fascinating Lithuanian-Jewish and Peruvian-Chinese heritage.
