Monument Beach ...

Not to keep repeating, but this is yet another quaint village of Bourne. Rich in history where the sea captain's built homes and resort villages all along the coast sprang up, from Monument Beach to South Pocasset. A good part of this new popularity, particularly for Monument Beach in the 1890s, was the arrival of President Grover Cleveland in 1891 at Gray Gables  and the train.

The train brought industry, tourism and new clusters of homes to the area. A first-class hotel attracted the Boston socialites and the rich & famous for the entire summer. Two hotels, "The Monument Beach House," and the "Norcross House," the latter being considered the best sitting on the water’s edge, a sea wall, verandas on three stories and on all sides and boasting to have the best plumbing & sanitary conditions - now wasn’t that something to bring in the masses!

Monument beach offers plenty of sand between your toes, warm breezes, calm water and some extra fun like building sandcastles, kite flying, volleyball and the ever so important concession stand to rehydrate after all that fun in the sun!

Swimming and playing by Buzzards Bay all day, it’s very relaxing. You can see the canal from Monument Beach. Pack up your beach toys, towels, picnic lunch and head to the sandy beach. Grab a bite while taking in all the views of the boats over at Phinneys Harbor or go grab an ice cream from Whistle Stop Ice Cream Shop on Shore Rd.

Nearby Monument Beach sits Monument Beach Marina, a public marina and boat ramp. With so much boating activities nearby, Monument Beach is an exciting spot for boat-loving families to check out! There are also two public tennis courts and a playground for the children.

Monument Beach is just one of many neighborhoods along the coastline, your next visit may include a stop at Barlows LandingPatuisset Island, Hen Cove, Bassetts Island or one of the many other “spots” along your journey. You won’t be disappointed at any of them.
