Tickets are now available for the 11th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Community Breakfast on Jan. 20.

The breakfast, hosted by the Boys & Girls Club of Greater New Bedford/Wareham Unit, recognizes students selected by the staff of each of Wareham’s schools, including Upper Cape Tech and Bishop Stang High School, and the Gleason Family YMCA and Boys & Girls Club.

The event begins at 9:00 a.m. at the Boys & Girls Club located at the former Hammond School at 13 Highland Avenue in Onset.
After a hot breakfast prepared by Kev’s Kitchen, principals from each of the town’s schools, and representatives from other organizations, will introduce their selections for the Martin Luther King award. The awards go to students who embody the spirit of the slain civil rights leader.

This year’s Keynote Speaker is Wareham native Darcy Fernandes, superintendent of schools for the Athol-Royalston Regional School District and recent recipient of the Mass. Association of School Superintendents’ Presidents Award for her work in creating more equitable classrooms for all students..

Advance tickets for the breakfast are $15 for adults, $5 for seniors and children, and are available by calling the Boys and Girls Club of Wareham at 774-678-4243, or stop by the club between 2 and 6 p.m. Monday-Friday. Limited tickets will be available at the door.

Sponsorship opportunities are also available, with sponsoring businesses being recognized with an ad in a commemorative program booklet. Call 508-273-3158 for information.
