Small boat fire quickly extinguished at Safe Harbor marina
A small fire in the engine room of a boat docked at the Safe Harbor marina in Onset Bay brought fire engines to the wharves during the afternoon of Tuesday, Aug. 13.
“Fortunately, it was a small fire and it was extinguished quickly,” said Onset Fire Department Assistant Chief Howard Andersen.
Andersen said the Onset Fire Department received a 911 report of a boat fire at the marina and sent out an alarm at 2:15 p.m.
When the Fire Department arrived on scene, firefighters found a small blaze in the engine room of a boat at the fueling dock, he said.
Firefighters were able to put it out with a fire extinguisher, and any possibility of a larger incident was quickly averted.
By 2:45 p.m., the dockside was calm, with firefighters making their final checks of the boat and preparing to head back to the station.
